Let’s take a look at one of my favorite stones. This post will discuss smoky quartz meaning, talk about how to use the stone, and offer you a simple meditation to connect with its energy.
Meet my 18-lb. rough smoky quartz altar stone!
When I’ve had a doozy of a day, I sit with this in my lap and let any energy not aligned with my field just soak out of me. Smoky quartz is an amazing neutralizer.
Smoky quartz meaning: Elemental magick and chakras
Smoky quartz helps connect you to the Earth element.
It’s also a great grounding stone, so when you’re working with the upper chakras, doing shamanic journeying, or traveling around the astral plane, it can help you come back to your body and plant yourself firmly in the physical world again.
It’s also a strong transmuter of negative energy.
So, for example, if you work an environment that’s not aligned with your personal energy—or that has a few toxic people, etc.—smoky quartz is a great stone to keep on your desk or in your pocket.
Set the intention that it helps Scotch Guard you from vibes not in sync with your own.
Smoky quartz is easily programmable with an intention
Because it’s a member of the quartz family, smoky quartz is really easy to program.
Programming is the process of recording an intention in a crystal, kind of like saving something on computer hard drive. The crystal will hold your intention and radiate it out like the powerful little generator it is.
Use smoky quartz to help manifest your desires
Smoky quartz is a potent ally for any kind of manifestation work.
It has a way of drawing the etheric into the physical. Use it for any kind of manifestation work. Keep it by your side when you meditate on a goal you’re working on.
In healing work, you can use it to help draw dense energy out of the body.
Sometimes you find it shot through with threads of golden rutile—like my egg—which juices up the energy a thousandfold.
Physical properties of smoky quartz
This is a pretty hard stone, with a Mohs hardness of 7.
Like other quartz, it forms in hexagonal crystals, and gets its brown color from natural irradiation.
If it matters to you, be sure to buy yours from reputable sellers who know their sources.
There’s a lot of smoky quartz out there that started out clear and was artificially darkened with radium or x-rays.
It won’t hurt you, but strictly speaking, it’s not the real deal. I only like the natural stuff, but see how it feels to you.
Where to buy it
Smoky quartz is really easy to find—in rough stones, tumbled stones, crystal points, and set into jewelry.
Almost every crystal or jewelry store will have some. It’s also pretty inexpensive, making it very accessible.
Smoky quartz meditation
Grab a piece of smoky quartz, it doesn’t matter what kind or size.
Close your eyes. Focus on your breathing until your heart rate slows and steadies.
ASK:
Am I grounded and centered in my life?
Where am I out of balance? What do I need to do to bring my energy back into alignment?
Do I have any negative influences around me that I need to remove or shore up against?
And then? Listen.
When you’re done, write down any thoughts or impressions you may have. Look back on these over the next few days and think about ways you can implement what you unearthed.
Do you use smoky quartz?
How do you work with it? Drop me a comment below, I’d love it if you shared!
