Big love to NYC-based Anima Mundi Apothecary for this shipment of magical lucid dreaming herbs.
What is lucid dreaming?
Simply put, a lucid dream is a dream in which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming.
This means that you’re “awake” in your dream, and can consciously control what happens.
More on lucid dreaming in a future post. If you want to dig into this topic now, there are a ton of books about it.
Two I like are Dreams of Awakening: Lucid Dreaming And Mindfulness Of Dream And Sleep by Charlie Morley and Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge and Howard Rheingold.
Why use oneirogens?
An herb that creates a dream-like state of consciousness or enhances dreams and the lucid dreaming process is known as an oneirogen.
Top 10 lucid dreaming herbs
There are a lot of different opinions about which herbs may best help you enhance your dreamtime experience. If you’re interested, here are the top 10 I’d recommend investigating:
- Calea Zacatechichi
- Gingko Biloba
- Wild Asparagus Root
- Valerian Root
- Blue Lotus
- Wild Lettuce
- Silene Capensis (African Dream Root)
- California Poppy
- Mugwort
- Heimia Salicifolia
I combine two herbs (calea zacatechichi and blue lotus) into a potent, lucid dreaming tea as part of my pre-bedtime ritual when I’m looking to do a little extra journeying in my sleep.
Have you tried either–or any on the list above?
