Your aura–also known as your biofield–is an energetic field surrounding your body that reflects your emotions, thoughts, physical health, and overall well-being.
When your aura is clear and vibrant, you feel energized, positive, and balanced.
But stress, negativity, and emotional turmoil can cloud your aura, leading to fatigue, anxiety, mental fog, and even eventually physical illness.
Cleansing your aura regularly can help you stay balanced and radiant–and can help you flow through life with greater ease.
“Our entire biological system, the brain, and the Earth itself work on the same frequencies.” — Nikola Tesla
What is the human aura?

The aura, also called the biofield, is more than a just a woo woo mystical glow.
Made up of layers of energies, known as the subtle energy bodies, the aura is a dynamic, very real energetic field.
It surrounds your body, reflects your inner state, and connects you to everything around you.
Take a deep dive into the Anatomy of the Human Aura here!

1. Smudging with Sacred Incense

Smudging is an ancient practice that uses the smoke of sacred herbs to clear negative energy.
White sage and Palo Santo are two of the most commonly used cleansing herbs.
I actually love to burn frankincense resin mixed with dried rose petals.
To perform a smudging ritual:
- Light a bundle of dried sage, a Palo Santo stick, or other sacred incense until it starts smoking.
- Hold the smudge stick and waft the smoke around your body, starting from your head and moving down to your feet.
- As you do this, set an intention to clear away negativity and any energy that doesn’t serve you.
- Open a window to let the smoke dissipate and clear the air.
2. Salt Baths for Deep Energy Cleansing

Salt has powerful purifying properties that can help remove energetic blockages.
Taking a salt bath can refresh your aura and restore balance.
Use good salt (sea salt, Himalayan salt) — not regular, iodized table salt.
Here’s how:
- Add a cup of sea salt or Himalayan salt to warm bathwater.
- Optional: Add a few drops of essential oils like lavender, rosemary, or eucalyptus for additional cleansing benefits. Rose petals are also a great addition (roses vibrate at the highest frequency of all flowers).
- Soak for 15-20 minutes.
- When you’re done, sit in the tub while it drains, visualizing any negativity swirling away down the drain.
- If you don’t have a bathtub, you can use a salt scrub in the shower.
3. Crystals for Aura Cleansing

Crystals emit vibrations that can help clear and strengthen your aura.
Some of the best crystals for aura cleansing include:
- Selenite – Clears energy blockages and promotes clarity.
- Black Tourmaline – Absorbs negative energy and provides protection.
- Amethyst – Enhances spiritual awareness and emotional balance.
- Clear Quartz – Amplifies positive energy and purifies the aura.
- To use, hold the crystal in your hand while meditating, or place it near your body while resting.
4. Visualization and Meditation

Your mind is a powerful tool for cleansing your energy.
Try this simple visualization technique:
- Sit comfortably with your eyes closed.
- Take deep breaths to relax your body — in through your nose, out through your mouth.
- Envision a bright white or golden light surrounding you, dissolving any negativity.
- Hold this visualization for a few minutes until you feel lighter and more refreshed.
5. Sound Healing with Singing Bowls or Chanting

Sound frequencies can break up stagnant energy and restore harmony to your aura.
You can cleanse your energy field by:
- Using Tibetan singing bowls or tuning forks to create vibrational healing.
- Chanting mantras such as “Om” to raise your vibrational frequency.
- Listening to high-frequency music, such as Solfeggio tones or binaural beats.
6. Spending Time in Nature

Nature has a grounding and cleansing effect on your energy.
Walking barefoot on grass (earthing), spending time in the forest (the Japanese practice of forest bathing), or swimming in natural water sources like rivers or the ocean can naturally clear your aura.
Negative ions, abundantly produced by waterfalls and after thunderstorms, can boost mood and vitality by balancing the aura.
These ions help neutralize positive ions (often associated with stress and environmental pollutants), creating a cleansing effect that revitalizes and clarifies your aura.
Sunlight and fresh air also help recharge your energy.
7. Breathwork, Tai Chi, and Energy Exercises

Deep breathing techniques and energy exercises, such as yoga or Tai Chi, can help cleanse and strengthen your aura.
Practicing conscious breathing, such as the 4-7-8 breathing technique, can help release stress and stagnant energy:
- Breathe in for a count of 4
- Hold your breath for a count of 7
- Breathe out for a count of 8
By incorporating these techniques into your routine, you can maintain a clear and vibrant aura, promoting positivity and overall well-being.
8. Reiki and Energy Healing

Reiki is a form of energy healing that channels universal energy (also known as prana, mana, or chi) and can help cleanse and balance your aura.
A Reiki practitioner or other energy worker can help remove energetic blockages and restore harmony.
(I’m actually a Reiki master, teacher, and practitioner. I’ll be opening up my practice more broadly for remote sessions soon! If you’re interested, take a look here or send me an email at jessie@sanctuaryeverlasting.com to inquire about a session!)
You can also practice self-Reiki by placing your hands on your body with the intention of sending yourself healing energy.
Try it right now:
- Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths.
- Say aloud: “I’m open to receiving whatever healing I need.”
- Place one hand over your heart and the other over your navel.
- Focus on your breath, breathing in and out slowly and deeply for 5 minutes, or until you feel moved to stop.
- Repeat every day at least once a day for a week, and see how you feel!
9. Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

Essential oils are known for their energetic cleansing properties.
Scents like rose, lavender, rosemary, frankincense, and lemon can purify your space and your aura.
How to Use Essential Oils for Cleansing:
- Add a few drops of essential oil to a diffuser.
- Mix with a carrier oil and apply to your pulse points.
- Create a spray using distilled water, a few drops of essential oils, and a pinch of sea salt. Mist it around your body.

Have you worked with any of these methods? What else would you add to this list?
